Cookies and browser storage
The Marker app does not set cookies and does not use Google Analytics. It uses your browser's own storage to keep you signed in, to remember a few display choices, and to hold a copy of a report that failed to save until it saves. These are needed for the service you asked for.
The Marker website uses Google Analytics 4 cookies, but only if you click Accept on the cookie banner. Accept and Reject are equally easy, and nothing is set unless you accept. IP anonymisation is on. The website remembers your choice in your browser's storage.
- _ga
- Google Analytics. Tells one visitor from another, so visits can be counted.
- How long it lasts
- Up to 2 years (Google's figure).
- _ga_<id>
- Google Analytics. Keeps track of a visit and the pages seen in it. <id> is our Google Analytics property code.
- How long it lasts
- Up to 2 years (Google's figure).
To refuse or change your mind, click Reject on the banner, or use the "Cookie settings" link at the foot of any website page. If you reject, we remove the Google Analytics cookies and stop loading Google Analytics. You can also block or delete cookies in your browser settings.
Fonts are served from Marker's own site, so no font service receives your IP address. Stripe's checkout and billing pages are run by Stripe and use Stripe's cookies, under Stripe's privacy policy.
How we use AI
Marker sends the session transcript and your notes to Anthropic's Claude service to draft the report. It sends your public YouTube video titles and descriptions to the same service to summarise them. It sends voice notes to OpenAI to type out. Both suppliers' terms say they do not train their models on data sent through their business APIs. You check and edit every draft. Marker makes no decisions about anyone that have legal or similarly significant effects.
Who we share data with
We share data only with the suppliers that run Marker for us, listed on our sub-processor page: Netlify (hosting and storage), Anthropic (drafting), OpenAI (voice notes), Stripe (payments), Resend (emails) and Google (finding your public YouTube videos, and website analytics if you accept cookies). If you joined with a referral code, we tell the introducer who gave you the code that you joined and how much you paid in your first 12 months, so we can pay their commission. We may also share data with our professional advisers, with anyone the law requires, or with a buyer if we sell the business. We do not sell personal data.
Marker uses YouTube API Services. By connecting a YouTube channel you agree to the YouTube Terms of Service. Google's use of data is covered by the Google Privacy Policy. Marker stores your video titles, lengths and links, with its own AI summaries, and refreshes them every 30 days in line with YouTube's API terms. Videos you remove or make private are dropped.
Transfers outside the UK
Our suppliers store and process data in the United States. We do not offer storage in the UK or the EU. Each transfer relies on the safeguard the supplier states:
- Netlify (hosting and storage): United States. UK Extension to the EU-US Data Privacy Framework.
- Anthropic and OpenAI (AI): United States. UK Addendum to the EU Standard Contractual Clauses.
- Stripe (payments): United States and other Stripe locations. Data Privacy Framework with the UK Extension; otherwise the UK International Data Transfer Addendum.
- Resend (emails): United States. UK Extension to the Data Privacy Framework, with the UK Addendum.
- Google (YouTube and website analytics): United States. UK Extension to the Data Privacy Framework, with Google's own transfer terms.
Details are on our sub-processor page.
How long we keep data
- Reports and saved dogs: kept while you are a customer. You can delete any report, or remove any saved dog in Settings, at any time. Session transcripts are deleted automatically 90 days after the report is made. The report itself is kept.
- Voice notes: the audio is not stored. It is passed to OpenAI to be typed out, and only the text is kept.
- Video library: refreshed every 30 days. Removed or private videos are dropped.
- When you cancel: we email you, and you keep read-only access for 30 days so you can download your reports. After 30 days your account and everything in it is deleted automatically. That covers your settings, reports, transcripts, video library, saved dogs and usage counts.
- If you start a free trial and do not subscribe: we delete your account and everything in it 60 days after you sign up, and email you a week before. The link we email you to start a trial works once and is deleted when used or after 48 hours.
- Billing records: kept for six years for HMRC. Stripe holds them, not Marker.
- Monthly report counts: kept while you are a customer, and deleted with your account.
- Host logs: up to 7 days. Email sending records at Resend: 30 days.
- Website analytics: kept by Google for the period set in our Google Analytics account (2 months by default). The cookies last up to 2 years unless you delete them or reject cookies.
- AI suppliers: Anthropic deletes within 30 days; OpenAI keeps for up to 30 days to check for misuse.
- Backups: Marker keeps no backups of its own, and our host gives us no way to restore deleted data. Once data is deleted, it is gone.
Our full Retention and Deletion Policy is available on request.
Your rights
You can ask us for a copy of your data, to correct it, to delete it, to restrict or object to how we use it, or to send it to you in a machine-readable form. Email hello@markerapp.co.uk. We will reply within one month. If you are unhappy, please tell us first so we can put it right. You can also complain to the ICO at ico.org.uk or on 0303 123 1113.
Keeping data safe
Marker runs over HTTPS. Passwords are stored only in hashed form. Sign-ins are signed and time-limited, and changing your password signs you out everywhere else. Five wrong passwords lock that email address out for 15 minutes. Each trainer's data is kept separate and the server reads only your own records. Our host encrypts stored data. Payment cards are handled by Stripe, never by us.
Children
Marker is for businesses and is not meant for anyone under 18.
If your trainer uses Marker
If you are a dog owner, your trainer decides what information about you and your dog goes into Marker and how long it is kept. Your trainer is the controller of that data. We store and process it for them, as their processor, under a contract. You do not have a Marker account.
To see, correct or delete what your trainer holds, or to ask about recording, please contact your trainer. Marker lets them download or delete everything it holds about you in one step. If you contact us, we will pass your request to your trainer and tell you we have done so.
Changes to this policy
We will post any changes here and change the date at the top. If a change is significant, we will email trainers.
